Global Innovation: SEMPHIL Expands with ₱50-Billion Investment
The future of Philippine manufacturing and the country’s growing role in global innovation is taking shape here in Calamba. Inside Calamba Premiere International Park (CPIP), Samsung Electro-Mechanics Philippines Corp. (SEMPHIL) continues to define what it means to build globally competitive technology from local ground. Long before Samsung’s latest ₱50-billion expansion made news, SEMPHIL had already been proving that the Philippines can power the world’s most advanced industries. From Calamba to the World Established in 1997, SEMPHIL became one of the first anchors of CPIP’s industrial community. Its mission was clear from the start: build high-precision components for the world’s leading technologies. Today, SEMPHIL’s facilities produce multi-layer ceramic capacitors (MLCCs) and other critical electronic parts used in smartphones, vehicles, and household devices across continents. Each product embodies Korean technology and Filipino expertise — a partnership defined by precision, consistency, and trust. Expanding Horizons Samsung’s recently announced ₱50-billion investment was formalized during a high-level meeting in Busan, South Korea, on November 1, 2025, where SEMPHIL and Philippine officials, including President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., signed the agreement under the CREATE MORE Act (RA 12066). The investment is projected to create over 3,500 new jobs and expand the company’s manufacturing footprint in the country. For SEMPHIL, this expansion builds on a long-standing foundation — one that began inside CPIP nearly three decades ago. The upcoming facilities are expected to focus on advanced components such as multi-layer ceramic capacitors (MLCCs) — critical technologies powering electric vehicles and next-generation smart devices. This expansion not only scales SEMPHIL’s production capacity but also positions the Philippines in higher-value segments of the global electronics supply chain. The company’s 2023 complex expansion inside CPIP already boosted capacity and opened new opportunities for engineers and skilled workers. The current investment builds on that momentum, deepening its presence and further integrating the Philippines into Samsung’s global supply chain. This growth reinforces CPIP’s role as a hub for sustainable industrial development, where locators choose to expand not out of convenience but out of confidence. Together, these milestones show how CPIP continues to attract investments that sustain long-term industrial growth. Confidence That Endures Speaking about Samsung’s role in the country, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said: “Samsung is already in the Philippines, they have employed [thousands of Filipinos] in their very, very high-tech manufacturing plant. The products that they make in the Philippines are of the highest tech that you can imagine. And so that is very, very important for us.” That statement rings true in Calamba. SEMPHIL’s record of steady growth shows how strong infrastructure, local capability, and dependable partnerships build lasting investor trust. The company’s ongoing expansion is both a business decision and a statement of confidence in the Filipino workforce. Driving Broader Growth Behind SEMPHIL’s world-class output are thousands of Filipino professionals — engineers, technicians, and innovators — who give the company its strength. Expansion here means real opportunity: stable jobs, evolving careers, and communities that grow alongside the industry. Samsung’s continued trust in the Philippines highlights a growing truth: the country is ready for the next phase of high-value manufacturing. SEMPHIL stands as a prime example of how global firms thrive when grounded in strong partnerships, sound infrastructure, and Filipino excellence. In Calamba, technology and talent work in sync. Inside CPIP, SEMPHIL continues to set the pace for growth built on trust and performance. Calamba Premiere International Park is proud to be home to global leaders like SEMPHIL — driving innovation, opportunity, and sustainable development in the heart of Laguna.
A Story of Integrity Inside CPIP
Some stories do not need grand moments to leave a mark. Sometimes, it is the quiet decisions, the ones made when no one is looking, that speak the loudest. It was October 10, an ordinary day for the monthly water meter reading inside Calamba Premiere International Park. As one of the meter readers went about his rounds, a small accident happened when the bag carrying the device for the readings slipped from his grasp and fell somewhere along the road. Not long after, Mr. Aljor Marco, a driver from Cherich Shuttle Services for Samsung Electro-Mechanics Philippines Corp., happened to be around. A faint thud caught his attention. That was when he found the bag. Inside was a cellphone used for water meter readings. It was unlocked and had no password. Mr. Marco could have easily left it behind, but he understood how important the device must be to its owner. He even mentioned that it would surely be an unfortunate situation for the water meter reader, knowing how crucial the device was for their work. Guided by that thought, he checked the phone for any way to contact someone from CPIP. The only numbers he found were landlines, but as he looked through the gallery, he noticed something familiar—an employee wearing a CPIP uniform. That small clue was enough to lead him in the right direction. He reached out to the park and insisted on returning the phone himself. When asked why, he simply said it felt right, that since he was the last to hold it, he wanted to make sure it found its way back. Later that day, he met Mr. Krister Po, Head of CPIP’s Environmental Relations Department, and personally handed over the device. It was a small act, done quietly and without expectation. To express gratitude, CPIP offered humble tokens for Mr. Marco, a man who reminded everyone what integrity looks like in action. Because this is not just a story about honesty. It is about doing what is right even when no one is watching. It is about the kind of integrity that does not ask for recognition, the kind that exists simply because it matters. And perhaps, stories like this remind us of something we can all do: to choose kindness, even in the smallest ways; to act with integrity, not because we must, but because it’s the right thing to do. At CPIP, progress is not measured only by growth or innovation, but also by the values that bind its people together. Mr. Marco’s gesture may have been simple, but its impact reaches far, reminding us that integrity, in its purest form, is what truly builds a community worth belonging to.
Refined by Duty, Guided by Purpose: A Journey Worth Sharing
Balancing school and work is never easy, but for Ms. Frances Yesha Heredia, it became a powerful learning experience, one that shaped her into the professional she is today. In April 2024, while still a third-year college student, Ms. Yesha began working as an umbrella girl at Ayala Greenfields Golf Club. Her work schedule was around four (4) hours a day, which seemed manageable at first. However, combining it with academic demands quickly became a real challenge. Some days, she would review notes while standing on the golf course, waiting for players. Other times, she’d rush straight from work to take a quiz at school, tired but determined. These experiences taught her resilience, time management, and the importance of making every moment count. Overcoming Challenges Through Discipline Her biggest hurdle was balancing time and energy. Fatigue sometimes cut into her study hours, but discipline kept her going. She used breaks and weekends for school work and stayed open with her professors, many of them offered support and flexibility. For Ms. Yesha, effort mattered more than perfection. Learning Beyond the Golf Course Her role at the golf club gave her early exposure to business operations, accounting- related tasks, and client service. She also gained patience, emotional awareness, and the ability to read people. Skills she now finds essential in her accounting career. Attention to detail, honed on the golf course, translated seamlessly into accuracy with numbers. From Self-Doubt to Self-Growth Ms. Yesha admits she didn’t become confident overnight. At first, she thought her role was limited to simple tasks. But as she juggled studies and work, she realized she was capable of more. “I wouldn’t say I turned super confident overnight. I still have doubts, especially with new accounting concepts. But what changed is how I deal with those doubts. I don’t get easily intimidated anymore. I see challenges as chances to grow.” She also learned patience, with herself most of all. Just like in golf, some days are great, some are tough. Instead of perfection, she focuses on steady effort and small daily improvements. No matter the role, umbrella girl or accounting staff, she holds deep respect for every job’s value and dignity.
Transitions That Matter: CPIP at NCE46
Calamba Premiere International Park (CPIP) was honored to take part in the 46th National Conference of Employers—one of the country’s most prominent gatherings of business leaders and decision-makers. The two-day event, held on July 29–30 at the Fiesta Pavilion, The Manila Hotel, carried the theme “Leading Transitions for a Sustainable Future.” Laying the Groundwork: Day 1 Highlights The conference opened with a message from Employers Confederation of the Philippines (ECOP) Governor and NCE Chairperson Mr. Cesar Mario Mamon, who introduced the core focus of this year’s discussions: the Triple Transition—green, digital, and social. These transitions, he emphasized, are not isolated trends but deeply connected shifts reshaping how businesses operate today. “These shifts are reshaping the way businesses operate, demanding innovative approaches to sustainability, technology, integration, and workforce development,” Mr. Mamon remarked in his opening call. Adding momentum to the message was the keynote address by Hon. Arsenio M. Balisacan, Secretary of the Department of Economy, Planning, and Development. His speech laid out a forward-looking vision aligned with ECOP’s commitment to sustainability and transformation. Spotlight on the Green Transition The first major session focused on the Green Transition, viewing sustainability more than just a trend, but also a long-term commitment. ECOP Chairman Mr. Edgardo G. Lacson reminded participants that, “Sustainability is not a slogan. It is a discipline. It is not a 5-year plan, but a generational promise.” A panel composed of leaders from Arthaland Corporation, Manbrella Packaging Experts, Pandayan Bookshop, and Security Bank—moderated by Mr. Jonas Marie Dumdum of NRI Singapore—shared approaches to environmental responsibility. Topics ranged from shifting to renewable energy, circular economy models, and pollution reduction, to broader strategies for climate resilience. The panel also discussed potential policy reforms that can support sustainable business practices across sectors. Navigating the Digital Landscape Next came the Digital Transition, with a conversation on how businesses can keep pace with rapid technological change. While digital tools bring undeniable benefits—efficiency, innovation, and connectivity—challenges like cybersecurity, data protection, and digital workforce readiness also demand attention. Moderated by ECOP Governor Perry Ferrer of Gruppo EMS, the panel featured Hon. Rosanna Urdaneta (TESDA), Ms. Michelle Alarcon (Analytics & AI Association of the Philippines), and Atty. Jay-R Ipac (DivinaLaw). The session zoomed in on the rise of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and how it’s transforming the workplace. The key takeaway: businesses must take the lead in shaping how AI integrates into the workplace, not the other way around. Centering People in the Transition Day 2 placed the spotlight on the Social Transition, emphasizing the need for people-centered change. The third panel focused on building inclusive and equitable workplaces—spaces where diversity is respected, labor rights protected, and workers are empowered through upskilling and lifelong learning. Moderated by Ms. Rhoda Caliwara of the Women’s Business Council Philippines, the panel included insights from Mr. Khalid Hassan (ILO Philippines), Ms. Olivia Limpe-Aw (Destileria Limtuaco & Co., Inc.), and Dr. Winston Conrad Padojinog (UA&P). Together, they explored the intersection of social inclusion, labor rights, and workforce resilience in today’s evolving business landscape. Looking Ahead: Integration and Commitment To close the event, Hon. Bienvenido Laguesma, Secretary of the Department of Labor and Employment, delivered a keynote on how Human Resource (HR) and Industrial Relations (IR) strategies must evolve to navigate the Triple Transition effectively. His address brought the three transitions together into one integrated vision—underscoring that a sustainable future requires action across the three transitions. The conference concluded with the Kapatiran sa Industriya (KAPATID) awards and a special toast to celebrate ECOP’s 50th anniversary—marking five decades of leadership in labor and industry. CPIP: Supporting Progress, Shaping the Future CPIP is honored to have been part of this important event. Represented by General Manager Carlos Po and key team members from Administration, Accounting, Environmental Relations, Marketing, and HR, our participation reflects CPIP’s ongoing commitment to sustainable and forward-thinking growth. As one of the country’s industrial parks, we recognize the responsibility that comes with our role. We’re focused on helping industries grow in ways that are cleaner, smarter, and more people-centered. The conversations at the conference were both inspiring and grounding. They remind us that we’re not just managing a space—we’re building an environment where businesses can innovate, communities can thrive, and progress can be shared.
